The David Healy team talk that inspired Linfield's title win of 2017

Andy Waterworth has revealed the half-time team talk from David Healy that inspired Linfield's title success in 2017.

The Blues came from behind to beat Cliftonville on the final day of the season to lift the Gibson Cup at Solitude.

It was Healy's first Premiership crown since becoming boss, and the club's first first league success since 2012.

Waterworth was the hero on the day, scoring a second half hat-trick to earn a 3-1 win.

But at half-time their title dream was in danger of becoming a nightmare after Daniel Hughes headed home for the Reds after just 13 minutes.

"It was great to win the league at Solitude, especially after all the abuse the Reds fans give me," Waterworth told this week's That's What I Call Football podcast .

"We were 1-0 down at half-time. I was absolutely minging in that first half. Awful.

"I remember walking off and someone shouted from the Cliftonville supporters: 'You'll never win the league again, Waterworth. The Crues are tanking Glenavon'.

"There was a lot of soul searching at half-time that day.

"I remember David Healy saying: 'People say they want to win the league. But do you really want to win the league? If we don't win it today, some people will never recover'.

"They were strong words. I remember that line, 'some people will never recover'.

"I just remember thinking to myself that I was going to gamble on everything (in the second half).

"The first goal, Mark Stafford kept the ball in and I just used my instinct in the box.

"The second goal was probably one of my favourite goals ever. Jimmy Callacher headed the ball, I ran from inside their half and scored."

Waterworth added a penalty to complete the scoring at Solitude, and clinch the title for Linfield.

"It was great winning the league after a long wait," he added.
