Everton make decision on Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka's futures

Everton are likely to confirm the futures of club captain Phil Jagielka and long-serving full-back Leighton Baines next month.

The pair, who arrived together in the summer of 2007 under David Moyes, will be out-of-contract when their deals expire at the end of June.

Premier League rules say clubs must submit their retained and released list by the third Saturday in May, meaning Everton will have now informed both Jagielka and Baines of their decision.

The confirmed list is then traditionally made public on the first Friday of June (7th) but the club could choose to announce a conclusion earlier after more than a decade of committed service from the duo and allow for a send-off at Goodion Park during the summer.

Reports have suggested Baines has been offered a one-year extension but Jagielka's future seems less clear.

The defender was introduced as a late substitute during the final home game of the season against Burnley with many assuming it was a farewell gesture from Marco Silva .

The manager, however, rebuffed those claims by saying: "When I took that decision, it is nothing to do with whether he will be here next season or not. If I had one more substitution, I'd have brought on him and Leighton.

"It doesn't mean they will be here or not. To play three minutes is not the most important thing.

"I know the atmosphere in that moment was really good. I know the reception to him would be fantastic, like it was. It is everything he deserves really."

Last year's retained list spelled the end for Arouna Kone and Conor McAleny at Goodison Park.
