The Darkness concert evacuated after crowd warned of 'emergency in the building'

Concert goers at a gig for The Darkness and Black Stone Cherry were evacuated due to an "emergency in the building" on Sunday evening.

The event at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool saw fans told to "leave by the nearest exit" after just one song.

The announcement left thousands quickly heading for the exits at the arena after the safety precaution.

The message is said to have relayed to the audience: "There is an emergency in the building, please leave by the nearest exit" and the microphones used by the bands were cut off.

The band put their instruments down before The Darkness' lead singer Justin Hawkins asked people to leave the arena.

A concert-goer told the Liverpool Echo there was no panic, but people seemed "a bit bewildered" at what had happened, with some thinking it was just a part of the show.

The publication reports that the safety precaution was soon resolved, with audience members returning to the auditorium shortly after. It's said that the concert restarted approximately 20 minutes after the alarm sounded.

The Darkness quickly apologised for what went on, joking they had "blown the f***ing roof off".

Fans quickly took to Twitter following the situation to claim it was still a "boss concert".

One user, who shared a number of snaps from the gig, wrote: "Boss concert. Even with the fire and the half-evacuation. All wrapped up on time and in time for bed. The Darkness were incredible. Took me right back to High School."

Another penned: "Despite having to evacuate the whole arena after one song, The Darkness still managed to kick a** again! #thedarkness @ M&S Bank Arena Liverpool."
