This action-packed novel grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and hauled me into its pages. Kester lives with his dad and best friend Polly trying to protect his Wilderness and find a cure for a deady disease threatening animals. The sinister and devious Mr Stone wants to stop them finding a cure so everyone can carry on eating his disgusting formula which for some reason tastes like prawn cocktail crisps. If you're interested in high suspense adventure stories this could be the book for you. But be warned, you need a stomach as hard as rock to get through some of the twists and turns of this enticing book. In parts such as when Kester hears a dark call and falls down a hole accompanied by a lonely rat, you feel frightened for his survival.
This is the second book in a trilogy, but I didn't know that until after I'd read it. So it goes to show that you don't have to read them in order. Piers has a brilliant way with words, every sentence conjures up a vivid image. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.
