The Dark Destroyer Shaun Wallace's life outside The Chase from being a barrister to fake 'wife'

Shaun Wallace is one of the best loved Chasers, having appeared as The Dark Destroyer for over a decade on the ITV show.

Shaun, 60, has shown off his quizzing talents time and time again - and he was a contestant on Mastermind, The Weakest Link and Fifteen to One.

Away from quizzing Shaun is a practising barrister, and balances his legal duties with filming the hit ITV series - reports the Daily Star.

He has worked on a number of high-profile cases, including murder, manslaughter and drug trafficking, and has even taken part in hearings at the Old Bailey.

In an interview with Law.ac.uk, he described his legal career as "interesting, at times disheartening, but in the greater scheme of things, worthwhile."

Shaun also stood as an independent parliamentary candidate in the 2005 elections, standing in the Brent South constituency.

But his political career didn't last long as he only received one per cent of votes, losing to Labour's Dawn Butler.

He first got involved in TV quizzing in 2004, when he won Mastermind after acing his specialist subject of FA Cup Finals.

He went on to appear on The Weakest Link, Are You An Egghead? and Fifteen to One, quickly becoming a familiar face on the UK quiz circuit.

Shaun landed his role on The Chase in 2009, adopting his nickname "The Dark Destroyer."

Shaun has previously said that Chase host Bradley Walsh gave him the nickname 'The Dark Destroyer'.

Last year several people took to Twitter to ask Shaun if he found his nickname on the show offensive.

Jayne Murphy asked him: "Just heard a woman on Lorraine saying she won't let her child watch the chase because it's racist due to your nickname. Can you clarify if you are offended by being called the Dark Destroyer?."

Shaun replied: "Absolutely NOT!!!"

Robin Chapman said: "Really? Hope this lawyer has been put right. Am sure that if @TheShaunWallace had a problem with the nickname "The Dark Destroyer", then @ITVChase wouldn't use it? #TheChase "

And Shaun said: "I don’t Robin!"

And Shaun told another follower: "I am proud to be dark in skin who destroys his opponents intellectually."

Shaun's popularity as a chaser grew and grew, as his quick wit and sharp tongue made his appearances on the show especially entertaining.

Last year he became a reality TV star when he took part in ITV series Don't Rock the Boat, an adventure series that challenged celebs to row the entire length of Britain.

Shaun struck up an unlikely friendship with his teammate, former Love Island contestant Jack Fincham.

He said: "I just love that boy.

“He knows I love him. Me and Jack definitely had a bromance going on and everybody could see that."

But Shaun largely keeps his friendships, relationships and personal life out of the spotlight.

He became embroiled in a bizarre battle with Wikipedia last year after the website falsely claimed he was married to a woman named Matilda Bray.

It suggested Shaun and "Matilda" got married in 1990, when actually no such woman existed.

Shaun sent a strongly worded letter to Wikipedia in an effort to get the strange claims taken down, and he is currently thought to be single.
