The damning Leeds United verdict that will give Nottingham Forest fans hope

Former Nottingham Forest striker Patrick Bamford has come in for criticism following Leeds United’s slip-up in their bid for automatic promotion.

The Whites were leapfrogged at the top of the Championship table by West Bromwich Albion, following their home defeat to Wigan Athletic and the Baggies’ win over Luton Town.

Forest themselves missed the chance to increase the pressure at the top as they were beaten away to struggling Birmingham City.

With Fulham now just three points off second, Leeds’ trip to the City Ground to take on Forest has added importance on Saturday.

Sabri Lamouchi’s men can go to within a point of Leeds with a win.

Pundit Jamie O’Hara has questioned whether Marcelo Bielsa’s men can win promotion with former Red Bamford up front – giving the chasing pack hope of a shot at the Premier League.

“What seems to happen with Leeds at this time of the year?” he told talkSPORT. “They just seem to fall away.

“I think there were a lot of Leeds fans who weren’t happy that the new signing, Augustin, wasn’t even in the squad. He didn’t even make the bench.

“If you’re bringing him in from a big club and then bringing him in to play Championship football then you’re expecting him to be the man to beat.

“For me, Bamford doesn’t give you enough – he misses so many big chances.

“He’s a very good player at that level, but you need someone who is going to make a difference.

“Fulham have got Mitrovic, West Brom have got Charlie Austin, they’ve got players who are going to make a difference in the big moments.

“Is Bamford going to be the guy who gets Leeds promoted? I don’t know.”

Bamford’s career is one that will forever be of interest to Nottingham Forest supporters having joined the City Ground academy at the age of eight.

Tipped as the next big thing when he broke through into the Reds’ first team in 2011, the striker was sold to Chelsea in January 2012.
