The damage caused in Weston-super-Mare when 80 tonne boat became grounded

This is the damage caused to a slipway on Weston-super-Mare beach after an 80 tonne landing vessel found itself grounded.

Crews working on the Seven Sins fell foul of the Bristol Channel tides when they found themselves grounded on the beach’s slipway

The vessel was being moved from Falmouth by the RNLI to help restore Birnbeck Pier, when it became beached on the evening of October 20.

Weston’s Coastguard Rescue Team helped relaunch the ship - crews had to wait for high tide for enough water to refloat the vessel.

The boat was not damaged in the incident but the same cannot be said for the slipway wall.

The picture, taken by resident Nick Hayman, shows large chunks taken out of the wall due to the impact of the ship.

Some stones from the wall have also fallen on to the beach below.

It is understood North Somerset Council will be responsible for making the repairs to the slipway.
