The cute, funny and unexpected creatures you can adopt from your local RSPCA

The local RSPCA rescue centre is many people's first point of call when looking for a dog or cat - but did you know there are also many other creatures you can take home.

The RSPCA is regularly looking for homes for a wide variety of animals, from more exotic creatures like snakes, geckos, bearded dragons and budgerigars to more common pets like mice, guinea pigs and goldfish.

At the moment, close to Merseyside, the Altrincham branch in Cheshire has a zebra finch called Robin ready to adopt, as well as a trio of gerbils named Chloe, Zoe and Snowy.

Further afield, in Cambridge, Rambo the three-year-old orange corn snake is looking for a new home, and in Brighton a black and white tegu is in need of a new owner.

So whether it’s a cat, dog, rabbit - or even a mouse - you’re after, you could make a huge difference to a pet’s life.

In our area there’s Elsa, a deaf English bull terrier who’s described as a “happy go lucky girl with a real passion for life”.

She knows how to sit, as well as other commands, and loves to be around people and give them cuddles.

Or perhaps you could help Jelly and Custard, a pair of domestic shorthair crossbreed cats who are one years old.

Although they are independent cats who would prefer an adult only home,  with a little TLC they may become friendlier.

Captain Crankpus, a 12 year old stray cat who loves fuss and attention, is starting to trust humans and is desperate for his 

forever home.

The animals were all available as of April 3, 2019, so it is possible that some have since been reserved or even adopted.
