The Curse That Stopped Brahma’s Worship Forever

In hindu mythology Brahma is known as the creator of the universe, along with Vishnu who is the protector of earth and Shiva who brings transformation and destruction to the earth. He is the part of the sacred trimurti. But if you look here you will find temples of Vishnu and Shiva and people are also worshipping them but no one is worshipping Brahma. The reason comes from an old story about pride, honesty, and a powerful curse.

The Trimurti Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva together.

The Conflict Between Brahma and Vishnu

There is a story that says Brahma and Vishnu once had a serious disgreement. Both believed they were the most powerful. What started as a discussion slowly turned into a heated argument. Neither of them wanted to step back or admit they might be wrong. In the middle of their argument, something unexpected took place. A tall column of bright light suddenly appeared between them. It seemed to go on forever. They could not see its beginning or its end. The sight was overwhelming and filled with a strange, divine energy.

This glowing pillar was Shiva’s way of interference between their conflict. Instead of arguing, he chose to test them. He gave them a clear task. Brahma was asked to rise upward and search for the top of the light, while Vishnu was told to go downward and find its base. Whoever managed to find the end would be considered the supreme one.

The Search for the Endless

During the challenge, Vishnu went deep into the earth in the form of a boar to find the base of the endless pillar of light, while Brahma flew upward searching for its top. After a long search, Vishnu returned and honestly admitted that he could not find the end. Brahma also failed to reach the top, but instead of accepting it, he claimed he had succeeded and even showed a flower as false proof. Shiva, knowing the truth, was disappointed not by Brahma’s failure but by his dishonesty. He blessed Vishnu for his honesty and declared that he would be worshipped, while Brahma, because of his pride and lie, would not be worshipped on earth which is why there are very few temples dedicated to him today.

What This Story Teaches Us

Brahma flying upward in search of the top.

At its heart, this is not just a story about gods. It is a lesson about human nature. Ego can blind us. The fear of not achieving the first position can make people a liar. Honesty can also be a part of your success journey.

The story reminds us that truth matters more than pride. Vishnu was not punished for failing, he was respected for being honest. Brahma’s mistake was not being able to find the pillar’s end, but his refusal to accept it and he even lied about it. Even today, this myth encourages humility. It tells us that power and knowledge mean little without integrity.
