The curious case of Eddie Howe as former Celtic target gets stuck on managerial merry go round

Eddie Howe, remember him?

The Englishman was set to repair the broken pieces of Celtic 's 10-in-a-row bid by bringing the attractive and highly tactical football he employed at Bournemouth that had the likes of Gary Lineker fawning over him.

But after months of deliberation, the Parkhead club could not secure his appointment, opting instead for Ange Postecoglou, and it seems other clubs have suffered the same fate.

Most recently, Howe has been linked with the Newcastle job, alongside Chris Wilder and Frank Lampard, should Steve Bruce be forced out of the door on Tyneside.

Since the Celtic U-turn, he has been linked with other English Premier League jobs such as Crystal Palace, Everton, Bournemouth and Southampton.

He certainly gets heads turning but surely the longer his job search goes on the more difficult it will be to actually secure an opening?

With a win percentage of 40.1 per cent in the eight years spent at Bournemouth, as time passes, will Premier League clubs really remember his tactical success with the Cherries when considering who to hire next?

Perhaps his ability to spot young English talent would lend itself to a role in the national set-up with the Under-21s, as Howe himself said he wanted to "ease back into" management.

Despite all the speculation, Howe was once considered the hottest prospect of English managers but his unorthodox hiatus from the game may result in his unique style being lost in the shuffle.

It seems that only the perfect job will lure the 43-year-old in to finally getting back in the dugout.

It's not quite an Alan Curbishley level of hiatus but Howe is starting to become just a name in the crowd of an increasingly competitive managerial market.
