The Cumberland Arms in Ouseburn reopens its doors and drinkers can now book a slot

One of Newcastle's most popular pubs has reopened.

The Cumberland Arms, in Ouseburn, has been closed since March 23 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But after testing out its new safety measures, The 'Cumby' is now back open, although customers will have to sit outside on tables, with drinks served through a hatch in the pub's front porch.

Writing on Facebook, The Cumberland Arms management posted: "We are open! We have thought long and hard about how we will be open and what that entails."

"Customers are asked to bring facemasks when visiting the pub.

"Bookings and walk-ups will be accepted, with two-hour slots available to reserve.

"The usual terrace is fenced off, but customers can use the side entrance, with a one-way system in place inside for access to the toilets.

"All bookings are for outside tables, the pub advises patrons to "bring an umbrella if the weather looks bad."

Tables can be booked by emailing Cumbybookings@gmail.com

Initially, The Cumberland will open from 2.30pm to 9.30pm on Thursday and Friday and 12.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
