The Crystal Palace stat that should encourage Man City and Pep Guardiola

Manchester City's trip to Crystal Palace has been circled as one of the more important games left in the title race .

Away games are always seen as more difficult than home games, particularly at the end of a long London slog that has seen the Blues spend eight of the last ten days in the capital.

Selhurst Park has been particularly challenging for the Blues in recent years. A 2-1 defeat there in April 2015 ended any hopes Manuel Pellegrini had of retaining the title, Pep Guardiola left there for the first time a year later with a narrow victory that concerned him, and last season the team's 18-match winning run was halted there.

When you throw in that Palace are the only English team to beat City at the Etihad this season, it is easy to see why Sunday's fixtures is seen as one of the toughest remaining.

However, a look at the form of Roy Hodgson's team this season should encourage Guardiola and his players.

Why Liverpool FC and Manchester United have been unable to match the lure of Man City 'mercenaries'

They may have all but confirmed their place in next year's league with a tally of 39 points that sees them 11 points clear of Cardiff, but only Fulham and Huddersfield have worse home records. Games at Selhurst have been grim, with just four wins, 13 goals, and 16 points from 16 games. They have failed to score in almost half of their home games, and never scored more than twice there.

As it stands, their 41 per cent of points at home - compared to their record on the road, which is the seventh-best in the division - is their worst since they were promoted back into the league back in 2013.

City will not have it easy on Sunday, but the formbook suggests playing the team that have struggled at Selhurst this season will not be as challenging as the one whose reputation at the ground precedes them.
