The crucial coronavirus numbers behind Ayrshire's new lockdown measures

Nicola Sturgeon announced yesterday that East and South Ayrshire would be plunged into Tier 4 restrictions on Friday.

However, North Ayrshire will remain at Level 3 after their council's leader put the local authority's case to Deputy First Minister John Swinney at the weekend.

The news will be a bitter pill to swallow for many in East Ayrshire after the First Minister revealed last week that the region was one of the areas showing "encouraging signs".

Last Tuesday, Ms Sturgeon only flagged up her "concern" for South Ayrshire.

In the last seven days, NHS Ayrshire & Arran has recorded 528 cases and in the seven days before (November 3 to November 10) 732 cases were recorded – a 204-case reduction week-on-week.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran hospital numbers have proved to be quite inconsistent in the past seven days with the amount of patients in hospital with coronavirus being as low as 96 on Saturday but reaching highs of 114 last Wednesday. Yesterday, the number was at 108.

ICU numbers paint a similar picture but overall last Tuesday's high of 10 is now at 7.

We've taken a look at the numbers behind the Scottish Government's decision yesterday for each council area and the health board overall.
