Gangs of London: Who is Mark Lewis Jones the actor who plays Kinney in the Sky Atlantic thriller

Mark Lewis Jones is a huge part of The Crown's episode about Prince Charles' time in Aberystwyth, Tywysog Cymru, as the Welsh actor takes on the role of Dr Edward Millward, Charles' tutor.

He's also front and centre in Sky Atlantic's new drama, Gangs of London, in which he plays a gang leader called Kinney.

Though Mark's face is one that you'll definitely recognise from his roles in Hollywood productions to super-successful homegrown Welsh drama, but let's find out more about The Crown's brilliant Welsh star.

Who is Mark and where's he from?

Born in 1964 in Rhosllannerchrugog, Denbighshire, Mark has acted since his teenage years when he was a member of the Clwyd Youth Theatre.

He trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and a keen runner, Mark has participated in the Marathon des Sables and regularly raises money for charity with his running.

What have I seen him in?

To put it bluntly, loads.

In 2019 alone he's appeared in series two of  Keeping Faith as Steve Baldini, Chernobyl, The Good Liar opposite Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen and the Channel 4 Jack Thorne drama, The Accident.

He's currently on our screens in Sky Atlantic series, Gangs of London created and written by Welsh director Gareth Evans who is known for hit action flick, The Raid.

Star Wars fans will recognise him as Captain Canady in Star Wars: Episode VIII and also in 2018 he was in Netflix's Apostle - opposite Michael Sheen.

His acting skills have been flexed in more homegrown dramas than you can shake a stick at, the big one being Stella, in which he was Rob Morgan, the ex of titular Stella, played by Ruth Jones.

On top of Stella you'll have seen him in Hidden, Hinterland, Baker Boys, Merlin, Y Pris, Byw Celwydd and Torchwood.

On starring in The Accident opposite Sarah Lancashire, Mark had this to say: "It was great. Wales has become a real centre of filming now. "People have really cottoned on to the idea that there’s so much going on in Wales at the moment.

"It was lovely filming here. It’s always nice to go home at night!
