The Crown is to end after season five with Imelda Staunton as Queen.
The fifth series of Netflix’s The Crown will be its last, its creator and writer, Peter Morgan, has revealed, as Imelda Staunton is confirmed to replace Olivia Colman as The Queen.
Creator Peter Morgan said: "I’m absolutely thrilled to confirm Imelda Staunton as Her Majesty the The Queen for the fifth and final season, taking The Crown into the 21st century.
"Imelda is an astonishing talent and will be a fantastic successor to Claire Foy and Olivia Colman."
"At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.
"I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision."
The show was critically acclaimed in its first two series and won further awards for its third.

However some of the initial attraction around the programme appeared to have dwindled as it's progressed.
It's regularly received mixed reviews and an apparently smaller audience than previous years.

While Netflix does not routinely release viewing figures, a list it published of its most-watched shows of the year in the UK, including The Umbrella Academy and After Life, did not feature The Crown.
The award-winning show has been named as one of the most popular on Netflix in the UK.
It's also been described as part of the “global cultural zeitgeist” by Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer.
The all-new season three cast recently won the Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a drama series, and Colman won the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama series.
In its three seasons to date, The Crown has garnered 144 award nominations and wins
