The royal dramas of the House of Windsor were almost much more explicit in The Crown.
Appearing on the podcast Love Stories with Dolly Alderton, BAFTA-winning actress Vanessa Kirby, who played Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of The Crown , revealed that there were originally some racier scenes included in the show but didn't make the final cut.
Kirby revealed: "There was a sex scene between Elizabeth and Philip in the first season. I think they were in South Africa filming, and they were like ‘I just don’t think anyone wants to see the Queen having sex.’"
While fans did not see the scene between actors Claire Foy and Matt Smith , early episodes did include some rear nudity from Smith as Philip.
The Princess Margaret actress also revealed that there were originally more explicit scenes starring her opposite Matthew Goode as Margaret's husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones.

She said: "There was one (sex scene) written in The Crown, in episode seven of (season two).
"We had long discussions about what it should be, and it just became clear that to titillate was not the aim."
She also mentioned another scene which featured "lots of different positions" and did not make the final cut.
Vanessa Kirby is replaced by Helena Bonham Carter for the third season of The Crown which will tackle multiple romantic affairs, including Princess Margaret's dalliance with gardener Roddy Llewelyn (Harry Treadway) and Prince Charles' early romance with a young Camilla Shand (Emerald Fennell).
Not long to wait now!
The Crown season 3 is released on Netflix on November 17, 2019.
