The Crown series three: Netflix unveils extended trailer for royal drama's third season

The full trailer for The Crown’s third series hints at a tumultuous time for Olivia Colman’s Queen Elizabeth II.

The much-anticipated new season, which will debut on Netflix in November, looks set to explore a troubled period in Britain’s history, surveying the political turmoil of the late ‘60s and ‘70s.

The extended clip, released by Netflix earlier today, begins with Colman’s Queen in a reflective mood on her silver jubilee after 25 years on the throne.

“On days like today, ask yourself, in the time I’ve been on the throne, what have I actually achieved?” she ponders in its opening moments.

The trailer goes on to hint at dischord across the country as striking miners holding placards clash with the police.

“This country was still great when I came to the throne,” she then adds. “All that’s happened on my watch is the place has fallen apart.

The video also features the first footage of Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen’s younger sister Princess Margaret, with one shot recreating an infamous photo of the princess wearing a tiara in the bath.

The third series will explore the breakdown of Margaret’s marriage to Antony Armstrong-Jones (played by Ben Daniels), with scenes in the trailer hinting at bitter rows.

New role: Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles(Netflix)

Josh O’Connor’s Prince Charles also looks set to take centre stage as the series recreates his investiture at Caernarfon Castle, when he is sworn in as Prince of Wales.

The teaser clip shows him struggling with the pressure of royal duties as he asks his mother: “Am I listened to in this family? Am I seen for who and what I am? No.”

It also introduces Emerald Fennell as Camilla Shand, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne and Jason Watkins as Harold Wilson.

The Crown series three launches on Netflix on November 17.
