The Crown Season 5 trailer explores monarchy chaos and Diana's infamous BBC interview

The first trailer of Season 5 of The Crown has dropped and it explores chaos unfolding within the monarchy and Princess Diana's explosive BBC interview with Martin Bashir.

There's just a few weeks to go until the much-anticipated Netflix season airs, featuring Imelda Staunton playing Queen Elizabeth II and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Princess of Wales.

The fifth season will launch on the streaming service on November 9 with 10 new episodes set in the Nineties and Philip played by Jonathan Pryce.

This turbulent decade for the Royal Family has been well documented and interpreted by journalists, biographers and historians.

The trailer starts with the fire which ripped through part of Windsor Castle, and the Queen standing amongst its ruins.

Moments later, she can be heard saying: "In light of the events of the last 12 months, perhaps I have more to reflect on than most."

"The royal family is in genuine crisis," declares Martin Bashir, who is played by Prasanna Puwanarajah.

Later it cuts to Diana sitting in a chair she says: "I won't go quietly. I'll battle towards the end."

Some viewers have criticised the series for its reimagining of key events and conversations.

And in 2018, show creator Peter Morgan admitted some parts of the show require "leaps of the imagination" from the writers, even though it is thoroughly researched.

The fifth season of The Crown will launch on November 9.
