The Crown season 3 start date has been revealed

There's been much excitement for The Crown season three - and not only because Oscar-winner Olivia Colman makes her debut as The Queen.

For many of the scenes of the Netflix drama that's based on the Royal Family were shot in Wales.

The new series will air on the channel from Sunday, November 17 .

Also introducing Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip and Josh O'Connor as the young Prince Charles, the third and fourth series will span 1964 to 1976 and cover the decolonisation of Africa and the Caribbean, the birth of Prince Edward, and Prince Charles’ movement into the public eye following his coronation as the Prince of Wales in 1969.

The investiture was recreated during November 2018 in Caernarfon Castle, which is where the real-life event took place in 1969.

The series will also cover the Aberfan disaster and scenes for this were filmed last September when the film crew took over an entire street in the Cynon Valley .

Watch as The Crown is filmed in Wales

A number of characters have been re-cast for the third and fourth seasons, including the Queen (Colman) and her husband (Menzies). The first two seasons starred Claire Foy as the monarch while former Dr Who actor Matt Smith played her husband Phillip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

The new series of The Crown also sees Helena Bonham Carter take over from Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret.
