The Crown's Helena Bonham Carter weighs in on Prince Harry and Meghan drama

British actress Helena Bonham Carter has given her opinion on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping down from royal duties.

The star of Netflix's The Crown , 53, who plays Harry's great-aunt Princess Margaret in the royal drama, has said she fully supports the decisions of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they withdraw from life as senior royals and renounce their HRH titles.

Speaking to Us Weekly at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, Helena said: "I think the world is their oyster."

She added: "It will be very interesting to see what they do, but now they’re masters of their own destiny and good luck to them."

Helena wasn't the only cast member to wish the couple well, as Josh O'Connor, who plays Harry's father, Prince Charles , on the show, was also supportive of the move.

"I’m sure they are very talented and can go off and do whatever they want," noted Josh.

The pair were also joined on the red carpet by co-star Erin Doherty, who plays Princess Anne on the Netflix series.

All three will return for the upcoming fourth season of the drama which will see much focus on the marriage between Josh's Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, who will be played by newcomer Emma Corrin.

The actress to take up the role of Princess Diana has already been to Harry's dearly departed mother.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has defended his and his wife's recent decisions in a passionate speech.

"I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option," he said.

"What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren't walking away from you."

The Crown season 4 will be released on Netflix in late 2020.
