An executive producer on The Crown has said it is unlikely the show will ever cover the Prince Andrew scandal or Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship.
Suzanne Mackie made the remarks in the wake of the couple’s decision to “step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family”.
"To be honest, whatever the life of The Crown is after where we are now, I doubt we'll ever go as far into the present day," Mackie told PA.
The Netflix hit portrays the life of the royal family from the beginning of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
Season three, the latest to air on Netflix, covers the events between 1964 and 1977, while the next series will enter the 1980s.
"I think we'll probably – we won't travel into the present day,” said Mackie.
On Prince Andrew's friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his infamous Newsnight interview, Mackie said: "That was a particularly low point and it resonated for us in many ways, but in terms of the huge public exposure of it, not great."
The creator of The Crown, Peter Morgan, made similar comments in 2018 when he said the show would not feature Markle "because it's too close to the moment”.
"I feel uncomfortable writing about events within a certain time period," he said.
The Crown is expected to run for six season. It is currently airing on Netflix with Golden Globe-winner Olivia Colman leading the cast as the Queen.
