Prince Charles’s aides are believed to be “paranoid” about the portrayal of his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles in Netflix series The Crown.
The hit show’s forthcoming season places the focus on Charles, who’ll be played by Josh O’Connor, and his relationship with his mother, the Queen, played by Olivia Colman.
Princess Diana is expected to be introduced late on in the show’s third season before becoming a main character in the fourth outing, but The Sun is reporting that the Prince of Wales’s staff are concerned what impact the storyline will have.
A source reportedly told the paper: “The timing couldn’t be any more disastrous in terms of Charles’s bid for popularity. [His] staff are deeply paranoid about The Crown.”
Clarence House has been contacted for comment.
Season three of the series, which originally starred Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby, begins next month, with cameras currently rolling on the fourth.
Emma Corrin will play Diana with Parker-Bowles set to be played by Killing Eve writer Emerald Fennel.
Charles admitted to having an affair with Camilla in 1994 and divorced from Diana in 1996, one year before she was killed in a car accident in Paris, France.
The Crown returns to Netflix on 17 November. The costly biographical series tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II, from her marriage to Prince Philip right through to her present-day reign.
