Netflix’s new South Korean series, Squid Game, is not only number one trending but is also said to be one of the most successful original series produced on the platform, according to the streaming platform.

The massive and incredibly frightening doll in the first episode of the bloody and gory version of “red light, green light” may be one of the reasons for the poignant acting.

But guess what?

The doll wasn’t merely a creation for the show. She exists in real life.

She resides in Chungcheongbok-do, a rural area of South Korea’s Jincheon County, a few hours north of Seoul.

According to Koreaboo, the doll overlooks the entrance of a horse carriage museum called Macha Land.

The producers of the show borrowed the doll during filming but have since returned her back to her post. Now, she’s missing a hand, which, in a way, seems a bit eerie.

This isn’t the only giant doll of its caliber to be in an area.

A version of the doll also unexpectedly popped up at a shopping mall in the Philippines to discourage people from jaywalking.

Hundreds of thousands of fan videos on TikTok made dramatised versions of the deadly games on the show, with many of them playing the lighthearted but deadly sound of the doll in the “red light, green light” game.

I guess it’s only a matter of time before the sing-songy sounds disrupt our dreams.

Indy100 reached out to Macha Land for a comment.
