The crazy cutting edge of Korean hair

Korea Hair Collection : A model presents a creation during the 2012 Korea Hair Collection in Seoul
This designer has taken the concept of hair-accessories and run with it. One felt flower, artfully clipped to the side of the head, can be pretty; this riot of cascading, luminous flowers makes the model look more like a Flower Pot Man. Minus the flowerpot Photograph: Jo Yong-Hak/Reuters

A look that's ideally suited to Hallowe'en, horror-themed fancy dress parties or any time you just want to put the fear of God into someone. One-part raven to two-parts rattlesnake, it's definitely not for the fainthearted. The plaits, I'd argue, are an unnecessary distraction - a little too faux-hippy teenager on a gap year Photograph: Jo Yong-Hak/Reuters

Surely an homage in hair form to that woefully undersung domestic utensil: the loobrush. How much of that is her real hair? Will her fringe survive the aggressive overcrimping? And why is a small blonde bun peeping out incongruously at the back? Only the model can know the answers; and judging by her miserable expression, it may be some time before she recovers her dignity Photograph: Jo Yong-hak/Reuters

This design pushes the definition of “hairstyle” to its limit: surely this enormous plaited bow is more of a hat? But not to worry; what the style lacks in actual hair, it makes up for in girly cuteness. Could just make a statement choice for Ascot next year: or even a summer wedding (though make sure you don't accidentally whack the bride in the face) Photograph: Jo Yong-Hak/Reuters

We might all feel that our hair resembles a bird's nest first thing in the morning – but I doubt many of us have actually tried to wear one. This pile of silhouetted sticks and hairpieces makes for an arresting photograph, but attempting to walk in it must be hideously painful Photograph: Jo Yong-Hak/Reuters
Korea Hair Collection : A model uses her mobile phone at Korea Hair Collection in Seoul
Part Marie Antoinette, part Lady Gaga, part TV aerial, this style is certainly one way to make an entrance. As for what its wearer is saying into her mobile phone, we can only conjecture: “Mum, please help me?”; “Doctor, I've got an inexplicably bad headache?”. The possibilities are endless Photograph: Reuters
