The countdown is on for Blantyre's big Christmas light switch-on

The Christmas countdown is under way for Blantyre’s big festive lights switch-on.

Thousands of people are expected to bring plenty of cheer to McAnulty Public Park on Sunday, November 24.

The family fun day will be free to enter and Blantyre Community Committee have once again organised a spectacular event.

This will be the eighth annual event they have organised, with revellers set to enjoy a host of fun from midday until 4.30pm.

Committee chair Arlene Green told the Advertiser: “There will be a fab Christmas market held in the large hall inside Blantyre Leisure Centre.

“With Santa’s grotto, a cafe, dozens of stalls, live reptiles and birds, it promises to be an excellent day out.

“Children will love the fairground rides with games, live acts and entertainment planned for the outdoor stage.”

The Christmas lights are due to be switched on at 4.20pm and the committee promise a few surprises in store.

Arlene added: “It’s expected to once again be well attended, so please pop along and get the Christmas countdown started.”

And the committee are now taking bookings for stall holders at the which will precede the festive lights being switched on.

Pitches are £30 for the day and are 3m x 2m. The pitch consists of a covered festive stall with table, seat and binbags.
