The cost of the Great British Bake Off kitchens from Neff ovens to £300 blenders

The Great British Bake Off returns for a new series in 2019 with the youngest set of contestants yet.

Hosted by Paul Hollywood, Pru Leith, Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig, the Bake Off has become a British institution, with over 7.5 million people tuning in to the 2018 grand final.

Set in a large tent in the grounds of Welford Park in Berkshire, contestants have to navigate a series of challenges set by the hosts over the course of 10 weeks. Each week is themed and the first week of the 2019 contest will see the contestants take on three cake-based challenges.

To compete in front of the professional judges bakers use a host of equipment specially installed in the tents.

Perhaps the most famous item used in the pop-up kitchen are the ovens. Worried contestants can often be seen watching bakes through the glass doors and notable moments include bakes being dropped or - in the 2017 series - an oven door falling off.

However, kitting out a kitchen is not cheap. The individual Bake Off kitchens come at a hefty price if you were to buy the items individually.

As expected, producers of the series have secured only the best of the bakers and the ovens used in the show are made by luxury kitchen supplier Neff. The brand created the famous slide and hide feature seen being used by contestants on the show.

According to Which? the Slide&Hide feature is only available on ovens priced at £650 and over - but Neff ovens without the feature start from around £349 from the likes of John Lewis.

Other kitchen items used in the series include the KitchenAid stand mixer priced at £329 from Currys , and the large stylish fridges made by upmarket appliance brand Gorenge. A fridge-freezer can cost from £35 from Appliances Direct.

Add a host of specialist baking utensils, bowls, pots and pans and the Great British Bake Off kitchen is an expensive place to kit out.
