The cancellation of Goose Fair caused a commotion but there's a scaled back taster of fairground fun at Nottingham's Christmas Market.
Obviously there's no white knuckle rides - and only a very limited number of attractions amongst the gift stalls and food and drink outlets but still, at least there's something.
A day out at the market could add up to a costly sum so it's useful to know how much cash you'll need for the rides especially if you've got children.
We had a look - and this is what we found.
The main attraction is the 33m big wheel in the heart of Old Market Square, which has visited Nottingham on several previous occasions.
If you've got a head for heights, there's great views of the city's rooftops. There's also a bird's eye view of the market below when the carriages reach the top during the three rotations.
But be warned, it's cash only. The prices are adults £6, children aged four to 12 £3, and concessions with ID £5.
Fairground favourite, the carousel with its galloping horses named Chloe and Kathleen, is there in all its colourful, tuneful glory.
It's one price for all, whatever your age, and that's £3.
The Helter Skelter doubles up as a bar and a ride. On one side there's an alfresco seating area for enjoying a mulled wine or a pint - on the other, grab a mat for a slide down for £2.50 a go.
The other kids' rides are the Penguin Party, in Smithy Row, and Santa's Balloon Ride in Old Market Square, also £2.50 per person. Adults can go on with young children but they also have to pay.
