The cost of fuel per mile for the top 10 most popular UK cars

Fuel costs have been going up this year as the price at the pump leaves many scratching their head. The cost of living has been spiralling upwards and one of the main sectors affected by this is fuel. Looking at the website Compare The Market, drivers are able to see the list of top 10 most common cars on the roads in the UK. And then you can see how much drivers pay per mile in them.

When Derbyshire Live did the maths, unleaded petrol cost 167.40 pence per litre and diesel cost 177.78 pence per litre. This was used to calculate the total fuel cost for each mile by using the given number of miles per gallon each car achieves in towns and cities and on motorways and dual carriageways. Using this calculator on Fuel-Economy.co.uk, drivers can work out the cost per mile at the above prices. Hopefully this will help drivers better understand how much each mile costs them.

Below is laid out the cost for both petrol and diesel models of each vehicle. Obviously, travelling further distances at higher speeds is more fuel efficient than short journeys and and around the city and towns so we have included the cost per mile for both urban and motorway driving.

Urban driving relates to city driving, where there is a lot of acceleration and deceleration because you have to stop for red lights and junctions. Motorway driving involves higher speeds with rarely any slowing down or stopping.

It takes more fuel to go from 0–45mph repeatedly than it does to maintain 45 mph or even 70 mph. Find below the fuel cost per mile of the ten most popular makes and models on UK roads. Naturally, older models are likely to be less fuel efficient but the below should give you an idea of what you're paying.
