The Coronation Street legends betraying Manchester for their love of football

Two Coronation Street legends regularly betray Manchester and their soap because of their love of football.

Acting stars Jack P Shepherd, from Pudsey who plays David Platt, and Colson Smith, known to millions as Craig Tinker in Corrie, are huge Leeds United fans. Obviously, this goes against the heritage of Weatherfield where you’d expect characters to support Manchester United, Manchester City or even Weatherfield County.

Jack, 34, who joined Corrie as a child actor is known as one of Leeds United’s most famous fans. Obviously, you'd expect Leeds United to be more commonly associated with the cast and characters from Emmerdale.

He regularly tells his followers on Instagram and Twitter about his love for the Elland Road club.

Last year, Jack couldn’t hide his delight at receiving the Leeds United home and away shirts on his Instagram account.

While Colson Smith, 23, bravely opened up about how watching Leeds United helped his mental health during the coronavirus lockdown period.

In 2015, Colson was announced as a club ambassador for Leeds United.

Discussing the honour, he said: “I’m a huge fan and an even bigger fan of the work the club’s charity does in the community. In recent times the foundation has made huge strides and is the heartbeat of both the community and the club.

“The amount of work they do to help people most in need, young and old, is quite phenomenal.

“As a city and a county, we should be really proud and I will help out in any way I can to make sure we help more people on an even greater scale.”
