The Coral, OMD and Echo and the Bunnymen to play open air concerts in Wirral

Merseyside stars Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, The Coral and Echo and the Bunnymen will play huge open air concerts at Birkenhead Park later this year.

Returning for its second year, the Wirral Food, Drink and Music Festival will give guests the chance to enjoy some of Wirral’s best produce - topped off with huge performances each evening.

The Coral will take to the stage on Friday, September 4 to perform their hits such as Dreaming Of You and In The Morning.

Echo and the Bunnymen will take over the park on Saturday, September 5 with hits such as Rescue and The Killing Moon, before a rare performance by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark closes the show on Sunday, September 6.

OMD are set to be supported by Pete Wylie and The Mighty WAH.

The two-day festival, which is free to enter, will be followed by ticketed concerts from the stars across three nights.

Cllr Christine Spriggs, Wirral Council cabinet member of culture and tourism, said: "I am absolutely thrilled to welcome the return of the Wirral Food, Drink and Music Festival to historic Birkenhead Park again this year.

"It is, quite simply, one of the key events of 2020, and an important legacy of our year as Borough of Culture .”

Daytime events at the festival include chef demonstrations and children’s cookery courses, along with a range of food stalls, coffee vendors, artisan breweries and more.

Foodie favourites already confirmed to attend include The Art of Wine, Estrella Bar, Tappers Gin, Wirral Watercress and Edge and Sons butchers.

While the daytime festival is free, tickets to the night time concerts start from £25 per person.
