The controversial moment Ospreys star is sent off after 37 seconds as Wales star calls it a 'shambles'

The Ospreys haven't had the best of times recently.

But even by their standards, the way they started their Champions Cup clash with Racing 92 was disastrous.

The region were reduced to 14 men as Dan Evans saw red after just 37 seconds for a reckless action that saw his leading foot collide with French winger Teddy Thomas' face while going for a high ball.

The full-back looked perplexed as referee Frank Murphy gave him his marching orders, with the official explaining "we have to go red card for this for player's safety."

However, things would only get worse for the Ospreys in the first-half.

They were, at one point, down to 12 men as Scott Williams was sin-binned for killing the ball before Aled Davies briefly joined him for a deliberate knock-on.

Ironically, those three cards were the only penalties the Ospreys conceded in the opening 40 minutes. At the break, they trailed the French outfit 28-7.

The red card has been met with a mixed reaction on social media.

Many have accepted that the official had no choice but to show Evans the red, but some players past and present weren't so sure.

Former Wales international Matthew J Watkins claimed the 'games gone crazy', while current star Liam Williams called the decision a "shambles".
