The confirmed Real Betis transfer which is fantastic news for Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino

Real Betis have completed the signing of Nabil Fekir from Lyon.

This is somewhat of a surprise as less than 12 months ago the France international seemed set to join Liverpool only for a deal collapsed at the 11th hour, while Chelsea were also rumoured to be interested in his signature.

He ended up staying put, scoring 12 goals - including one in the Champions League against Manchester City - and weighing in with nine assists across all competitions last season.

Amid links to Liverpool as well as Arsenal this summer, it is the La Liga outfit who have won the race for Fekir and he's signed a four-year deal at the Benito Villamarín Stadium.

The fee is a reported €20m and a potential €10m in bonuses, while L'Equipe claim Lyon are also due 20% of any sell-on fee.

But it's not just Los Verdiblancos who have reason to be happy.

Fekir to Real Betis is fantastic news for Mauricio Pochettino as the France international is seen as a direct replacement for Spurs transfer target Giovani Lo Celso.

Having competed at this summer's Copa America tournament, any deal for the midfielder had to be placed on hold until after his involvement was over.

That didn't happen until the final weekend of the tournament as Argentina were among the final four, beating Chile in the third-place play-off.

But new Betis boss Rubi dropped a major hint over Lo Celso's future last week .

"We all want new faces soon but in the end we also look for the economic benefit and it is not easy," Rubi told  El Desmarque . I know who does or does not have that intention.

"We are talking about a case in which the idea is very clear to leave.

"It could be [Lo Celso], as a coach, I am delighted that he can join and help him do what he did last year and enjoy football."

"The rest is staying."

Pochettino full press conference after Juventus victory

Lo Celso has an £88m release clause in his contract with Betis.

However, the Spanish club are willing to do a deal for around £70m which would mean Tottenham breaking their transfer record twice in the same summer having splashed out £63m on Tanguy Ndombele.
