The Confessions of Frannie Langton cast and where you've seen them before

In need of another period drama after watching Bridgerton? Well, look no further because ITV have started filming for a powerful period drama called The Confessions of Frannie Langton.

Based on the book of the same name by Sara Collins, the four-part British drama produced by Doctor Foster producer Drama Republic began filming in Wakefield, Yorkshire.

There is no better person suited to adapting this show other than Collins herself, the novel which features evocative, complex, multi-faceted characters at its heart will be adapted with the help of director Andrea Harkin - who brought us The Trial of Christine Keeler.

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming period drama and what to expect from it.

Who is in The Confessions of Frannie Langton cast?

The cast includes a few faces you might recognise from notable films and tv shows:

Karla-Simone Spence (Frannie Langton)

Karla-Simone Spence leads the cast as Frannie Langton. You might know her from Blue Story as well as from the BBC series Wannabe and Gold Digger.

Born in London, she was nominated for three categories for her role in Blue Story at the 2020 National Film Awards UK.

Sophie Cookson (Madame Marguerite Benham)

Joining Spence is Sophie Cookson, who has starred in a number of roles from Kingsman: The Secret Service to The Trial of Christine Keeler.

Cookson graduated from Oxford School of Drama in 2013, while still attending she was cast in her first major miniseries Moonfleet.

Patrick Martins (Laddie Lightning)

Patrick Martins who has starred in Blasts From The Past and Redemption will also be appearing in the show.

Martins is a recent graduate of The Lir in Dublin - he made his professional acting debut playing Borachio in Rough Magic's Much Ado About Nothing.

Steven MacIntosh (John Langton)

Other cast members include Rockman’s Steven MacIntosh as John Langton.

In 2000, MacIntosh received a British Academy Television Award nomination for his leading role in the BBC One television film Care. Other films you might have seen him in is Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, The Land Girls as well as the first season of Luther.

Stephen Campbell Moore (George Benham)

War of The Worlds’ Stephen Campbell Moore plays a renowned scientist and husband to Madam Marguerite.

The actor is best known for his roles in the Alan Bennett play The History Boys and the film based on it

Henry Pettigrew (William Pettigrew)

Henry Pettigrew who starred in The Danish Girl plays William Pettigrew.

Most known for his work in Hollywood, Pettigrew made his debut in Midsomer Murders in 2006 and has been in The Relief of Belsen, Next of Kin and Line of Duty.

What is The Confessions of Frannie Langton about?

Set in Georgian London, The Confessions of Frannie Langton tells the story of Langton, the young protagonist born into a life of slavery who is fighting to tell her own story.

The show narrates Langton’s journey from a Jamaican plantation to the grand Mayfair mansion of celebrated scientist George Benham and his wife, Madame Marguerite Benham.

Langton who is owned by John Langton is gifted to Benham where she is employed as a maid in the household, much to her annoyance.

Including a few plot twists and turns, events take a fateful turn and Frannie must piece together the events of one night.

However, she is unable to recall what happened due to her addiction to laudanum.
