This large-scale seminar features a panel of some of the biggest names in food writing. It is designed to teach attendees how to conceive, write and pitch articles relating to food. Topics covered on the day include:

  • Interview essentials: the kit you need, researching your subject and planning an interview
  • Interview technique: how to stay friendly yet objective, and how to coax shy interviewees out of their shells
  • Pitching to editors: what editors want, finding a fresh angle and how to write the perfect pitch email

Tutor profile

Felicity Cloake is the author of the Guardian's How to Make the Perfect... column and three recipe books, Perfect, Perfect Too and Perfect Host. She is also a freelance journalist and food columnist for the New Statesman. In 2011, Felicity won the Guild of Food Writers Food Writer of the Year and New Media awards. Mina Holland is acting editor of Guardian Cook. She was formerly contributing editor of Observer Food Monthly and has contributed to a range of publications including Observer New Review, Observer Tech Monthly, Observer Magazine, Waitrose Kitchen, Stylist, Flavour First and others. Andrew Webb is an award-winning food writer and journalist. His previous books include Food Britannia (winner of the Guild of Food Writers award) and The Men's Pie Manual. As well as writing for the FT and Delicious magazine, Andrew has presented episodes of The Food Programme on Radio 4 on subjects as diverse as food on a pension and the future of the cookbook. Eve O'Sullivan is a freelance food writer, food stylist and regular contributor to Cooked, for which she writes the weekly Readers' Recipe Swap. She is also the editor of Cooked, a new venture from Bloomsbury Publishing, Quadrille and Hardie Grant, launching in January 2015, and writes for publications and websites such as Olive, Delicious, Harper's Bazaar online, Guardian Cities, Guardian Live Better and The Northbank.
