The comments that give Troy Parrott hope of making a name for himself on the international stage

Troy Parrott looks to have a very bright future ahead of him for both club and country after his latest goalscoring exploits.

Making a big name for himself in north London last season after plundering goals for fun for Spurs' youngsters, the striker carried on his impressive form in front of goal as he scored on the international stage on Friday evening.

Making his debut for Republic of Ireland's U21s in their game against Armenia, the 17-year-old finished off a good move with the only goal of the match as Stephen Kenny's side ran out 1-0 winners.

It could be the start of a very good month for the striker as he may make his competitive debut for the Lilywhites in the third round Carabao Cup tie against Colchester United.

Mauricio Pochettino does usually make a number of changes in the cup and he has given a handful of youngsters debuts in the competition in recent years.

As well as also trying to make a name for himself at the club level, Parrott will also be targeting a place in the senior Republic of Ireland side down the line.

What could help the striker is the fact that Stephen Kelly, the current U21 boss, is set to succeed Mick McCarthy in the hotseat once next year's European Championship come to an end.

The former Dundalk manager admitted earlier in the year that he's looking to build the best U21 team possible with the hope that a number of them can make the step up and represent the senior team.

"We will pick the best Irish players for the 21s team with the intention of having the best team we can but with wider objective of producing future Irish internationals," he said.

"I make my own decisions and that won’t be my main objective – getting players qualified.

"My main objective is to pick the best players for the campaign, players I think have most potential for the future while trying to nurture and develop a cohesive team that wants to play for Ireland and can play to a high level."

Parrott will be back in action on Tuesday as the U21s travel to Sweden for a European U21 Championship qualifying match.
