Arsenal's Premier League woes have continued to go up through the gears during their clash with Everton at Goodison Park this evening.
After securing a 1-1 draw at home to Southampton on Wednesday evening, some Gunners supporters were optimistic that the players and Mikel Arteta would use that point to their advantage and kick-on in an effort to get back on track.
However, the Gunners' hopes were extinguished just 22 minutes into the clash on Merseyside when Rob Holding, sporting the captain's armband in place of the injured Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headed the ball past Bernd Leno and into his own net.
Holding's error marked the Gunners' second own-goal in just their last three matches after Aubameyang was also guilty of putting a header past Leno during last Sunday evening's 1-0 defeat to Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.
To make matters even worse for Arsenal, who face the prospect of being without Aubameyang for Tuesday evening's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester City, Arteta confirmed ahead of the game, it was former winger Alex Iwobi who played a key role in the goal.
The Nigerian whipped in a cross from the right-wing, aiming to find the head of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and saw it bounce off the England striker's head, then off Holding and into the back of the net.
Though the assist has been credited to Calvert-Lewin, Iwobi was the main architect of the goal, with his cross proving key in Everton getting their noses in front.
As expected, Iwobi's impact on the game sparked an immediate reaction from Arsenal fans on social media, with no shortage of them insisting it was typical of Iwobi to play a key part in a goal after being sold by the Gunners back in August 2019.

Arsenal did get themselves back on level terms thanks to a penalty from winger Nicolas Pepe, who took his tally of goals to the season to five.
However, Everton defender Yerry Mina powered a header home right on the stroke of half-time to put the hosts back in front.
As things stand, Arsenal would have 14 points from 14 games at the end of the night, should the result stay as it is.
