'The clippers broke'... people share their hilarious efforts at 'lockdown' haircuts

After almost four weeks of lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak - life is starting to look radically different.

In some cases it may be for the better, with rigorous exercising and healthy eating regimes becoming popoular.

DIY projects around the house are being tackled, and old talents rekindled.

But some tasks are best left to the professionals, and haircuts is one of them.

With barbers and salons under lockdown for the foreseeable future, hair styles are growing wildly out of control across Britain.

In response, the all over buzz cut have seen a revival in popularity.

Cheap and virtually impossible to get wrong, it has been embraced by celebrities including footballer David Beckham and actor Riz Ahmed.

But not everyone wants to go so bold.

We asked Manchester Evening News readers if they have yet tried to cut their own hair, and to share their efforts with us on Facebook.

The response was hilarious and occasionally inspiring.

Leanne McDermott shared this photo adding: "I did my son's"

There was a surprising success for Kim Fielding who sent this and said: "Here's my son's, it went so wrong but he loved it!"

Brave Daniel Hulin was not rewarded with this result: "Trusted my nanna to give me a hair cut.. how wrong was I"

Crissi Cole tried to see the funny side of this one. "I cut my son's! At first it was like a mullet! Now it's like princess Diana! But it's not in his eyes anymore..."

Carly Alty regrets this offer. She wrote: "My 4yr old Toby decided it was a good idea to do his own"

Abby Jane admits she overestimated her ability with this one, writing: "30 years of watching the barber my hubby thought was enough experience to go at our sons hair!! Glad we have to stay in the poor boy"

(Abby Jane)

Not all the haircuts were a disaster.

Emma Jane Booth was among those to join the head shaving fashion and looks fantastic.

And even better, she raised money for a great cause.

"I shaved mine to raise funds for Rethink mental illness charity that helps people with mental health £177 donated and loving the less maintenance lol," she wrote.

Nicole Ryan came up with this brilliant idea.

"Me and my friend haven’t cut our hair but dyed it blue in support of the NHS and amazing key workers," she wrote.

And finally, Cat Ellis did a great job cutting not just her own hair.

"Did mine and the dog!!" she wrote.

If you have cut your own hair, or someone else's, and it hasn't gone to plan, take some comfort in the comfort left by Margaret Postles.

"I have had a go at the back, but as I have not bothered to look at it myself I am following the old adage, what you can't see etc etc," she wrote.
