The classy gestures from Tottenham players and staff amid coronavirus pandemic

There has been no Premier League football for a month now, with the coronavirus pandemic putting a temporary halt to life in general.

Lockdown measures brought in by the UK government mean that the population can only leave their houses for very limited reasons including buying food or taking exercise and It’s no different for the Premier League footballers.

The players earned praise for the #PlayersTogether initiative that was launched on Wednesday evening, with players coming together in order to collate funds to donate to the NHS to help their fight against the virus.

A number of Tottenham players publicly backed the initiative on their social media, but it’s not the only thing that Spurs players have done in order to help during a difficult time.

Here is a rundown of just some of the classy gestures shown by Spurs players and staff over the last month.

Toby Alderweireld

Defender Toby Alderweireld revealed his plans to buy tablets to send out to hospitals and nursing homes to help people stay in touch with loved ones throughout the pandemic.

The Belgian also took part in a video call with an NHS paramedic in order to show support to the frontline staff dealing with the outbreak of the virus.

Danny Rose

The full-back has been revealed as the mystery donor who gave £19,000 to North Middlesex University Hospital to aid their efforts in treating patients amid the pandemic.

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for everything you're doing,” he said in a video message.

"For the hours you're putting in and, more importantly, for putting yourself at risk to treat everybody.

"I wanted to say, on behalf of all my colleagues, that you are the heroes.”

The player, who is currently on loan at Newcastle also sent hundreds of Dominos Pizzas to staff working in the hospital.

Harry Kane

The striker has been using social media to send multiple messages in order to support the fight against coronavirus.

Including sending individual messages to NHS staff to encouraging children to draw pictures to show their support.

Tottenham

Tottenham as a club has received criticism for their decision to furlough some non-playing staff amid the pandemic.

However, the club did put food that would have otherwise gone to waste to good use by donating it to a local foodbank following the postponement of the game against Manchester United.

"We are pleased to confirm that we've been able to donate a significant amount of food supplies intended for consumption at Sunday's home Premier League match against Manchester United to The Felix Project, a London-based charity which aims to tackle food waste and hunger in the capital," a statement read.

Jose Mourinho

The Spurs boss worked alongside the charity age UK to deliver food to people who were either self-isolating or who were unable to leave their house.

"I’m giving a little help to Age UK Enfield and LoveYourDoorStep Enfield and of course you can donate food, money or be a volunteer,” he said.
