The city centre botanical garden many may forget exists

Liverpool ONE is the home of many brilliant things, from popular shops to cafés to independent boutiques, there's something for everyone - including an almost secret botanical garden.

Nestled behind the Bluecoat , which is the city's oldest surviving building in central Liverpool , is a spacious garden that's the home of many botanical plants and flowers.

When walking down Manesty Lane in the city centre, there's a small doorway which provides access to the city centre garden, though it would be very easy to walk by without spotting it.

If you visit the Bluecoat via its main entrance on School Lane, the garden can be accessed by walking through the middle of the arts centre and heading straight out to the back, where there's an array of seating on offer, surrounded by lush plants and large trees.

Recently, the garden was short-listed in the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards' Hidden Gems category.

But it lost out to the Friends of Williamson's Tunnels.

The secluded garden is open seven days a week from 9am until 6pm.

You can find the garden at Bluecoat Chambers, ONE College Lane, L1 3BZ.
