The Circle viewers rave over Richard Madeley twist which could see him play a younger Judy

He’s always been comedy gold - and it looks like Richard Madeley will provide some must-see TV moments during his time on The Circle.

The Good Morning Britain presenter entered the Salford-based apartment block which is at the centre of the Channel 4 social media programme - and straight away viewers couldn’t get enough of him.

The 63-year-old walked into his swanky abode at the Adelphi Wharf apartments on Adelphi Street - which will be his home for the duration of his time on the show - with an acoustic guitar over his shoulder.

And despite only just entering the house, viewers are already comparing him to comedy character Alan Partridge after tripping up when he entered the flat.

Richard said: "This is going to be fine, it's going to be a proper prison.

"I bet my wife's jealous. Alright Judy, wish you were here? Probably not."

As part of the celebrity twist, Richard will not playing himself in the show - instead the viewers choose whether he is a 23-year-old ripped Richard or a 27-year-old model called Judy.

One fan tweeted: “First ep down and man I forgot how invested I got in this show last year, I’m already obsessed. Okay, first thoughts... Tim has basically already won in my book, Woody seems like a sound guy and uhhh... oh yeah, RICHARD ! MADELEY!

“God, I love this show.”

A second said: “If you're not watching Richard Madeley on #TheCircle, you are missing genius telly!”

But not everyone was convinced: “The twist with Richard is so predictable. Everyone will choose the Judy profile.”

This is likely to be a shock to his wife Judy Finnigan, who admitted she is "baffled" he is taking part in the Channel 4 series.

After turning down a string of TV shows in the past, such as I’m a Celebrity and Strictly Come Dancing, Richard couldn’t say no to The Circle after enjoying the first series.

Speaking about his family's reaction, he said: "Judy is completely baffled because she hasn't seen any of The Circle, and she wasn't aware of the concept of it. So, at first, she was really baffled.

"Like I said, normally I say no to most reality shows, things like Strictly and I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here and stuff. So she was a bit surprised as to why I said yes. Then when I explained it to her she kind of got it.

"But Jack, my son and Chloe my daughter, were thrilled. They thought it was a really, really cool thing to do."

The Circle airs tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.
