The Circle set for Channel 4 return and bosses announce extra celebrity special

The Circle is coming back!

Channel 4 bosses have announced that the show is returning for a new series in 2021.

And in extra exciting news, producers say they're also launching a celebrity version of the show to raise funds for charity Stand Up To Cancer UK.

The hit show sees a group of people each living in their own apartments and communicating with each other through a special social media platform called The Circle.

Contestants can either play the game honestly, using their real pictures and information, or they can create a character to portray.

The most popular contestants earn control over the others and the least popular are voted out - or blocked - at regular intervals.

While the identities of the celebrity contestants haven't yet been revealed, people hoping to take part in the main show can apply online now.

The show, hosted by Emma Willis, has ran for two series so far.

The first series, which was presented by Alice Levine and Maya Jama, saw Alex Hobern win the £50,000 by pretending to be a girl named Kate, using pictures of his girlfriend.

He won a cash prize of £50,000 and was also voted the viewers' champion, taking home another £25,000.

The second series was won by Paddy Smythe, who played the game as himself, but didn't tell anyone about his cerebral palsy.

He won £70,000, but the viewers' champion prize went to Tim Wilson, who acted as himself the whole time, and took home £30,000.

This series also included some twists.

Richard Madeley took part, pretending to be a 27-year-old woman named Judy, but he wasn't very convincing.

Woody Cook also took part as himself, but withheld the identities of his famous parents Zoe Ball and Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim.
