'The choice is clear for Britain - Keir Starmer is ready to be Prime Minister'

Now’s time for change

The choice is clear for Britain, with Keir Starmer ready to be a bold, decisive and competent Labour Prime Minister delivering for working people.

What a contrast between a confident leader offering reassurance and radical change in Liverpool, with Liz Truss and the Conservatives, a Tory PM and party championing only the very rich while trashing the economy.

Starmer’s barnstorming speech pressed all the significant buttons and he’s right: We must never forget or forgive what the reckless Tories are doing now they’ve shown their true colours. Labour is on the side of working people whereas the Conservatives are the party of the wealthy.

No longer in the doldrums, Labour believes it can win. The confidence is infectious.

Starmer’s ambitious plans to spread home ownership and create a publicly-owned Great British Energy to supply cheaper, greener fuel, are crucial to clinching a deal with the electorate. Relying on the Conservatives to lose the next election – and they’re doing a very good job of that – would be foolish.

Buoyant

To be fair to Starmer, he displays zero complacency. Far from it.

There’s a fresh spring in his step, Tory toxic tax cuts for the rich and a 17% poll lead slowly turning Labour hopes into expectations.

He knows there is much to do and positioning himself as an heir to Blair is this PM-in-waiting acknowledging the last Labour leader to win an election had occupied a centre ground that holds the keys to Downing Street.

Drawing thick red dividing lines between his Labour and the Truss Tories, widening the deep blue water between the two parties, is easier when the Conservatives are lurching into a right-wing wasteland.

Britain deserves better than Tory incompetence, greed and sleaze.

That much has been obvious for years.

What is fresh is a national mood for change and Labour grasping the opportunity, presenting itself as a credible alternative to chaotic Conservatism.

We glimpsed a fairer, greener future in Liverpool. Now the next general election can’t come soon enough.
