So much of the buildup to Super Bowl LV focused on the two offenses, and in particular the two quarterbacks. But through a quarter-and-a-half of Super Bowl LV, the biggest play of the game has been turned in by the Kansas City Chiefs defense.
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a great drive going, but faced a 4th-and-goal on the Chiefs’ goal-line. Bruce Arians kept his offense in the game, and sent on defensive tackle Vita Vea as an extra lead blocker. The call was for Ronald Jones II to test the right edge.
But the Kansas City defense sent him backward, stoning him shy of the end zone:

Safety Daniel Sorensen was part of a pack that met Jones at the goal-line, along with linebacker Damien Wilson. To beat the Chiefs, you need to finish drives with touchdowns. Bruce Arians knows this, so going for the touchdown was the right call. But on this play, Kansas City was ready.
