The Chelsea wonderkid who could save Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia £90m

Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves both agree that Chelsea must look to sign a new centre-back and goalkeeper before any deal for Kai Havertz.

The Blues have been heavily linked with the Bayer Leverkusen star in a deal that could cost as much as £90 million.

Having already spent a similar amount on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, that would take the Blues sky-high, with a deal for Ben Chilwell also fancied.

Whilst fans have been clambering for any developments on Havertz, Ferdinand and Hargreave both agree a defender and goalkeeper should be Chelsea's next priority in order to progress forward.

Similarly, Hargreaves questioned whether the arrival of Havertz could also hinder the progression on Mason Mount, with both players operating in similar roles.

“He’s a great young player, but they have a lot of those great young players," Hargreaves told BT Sport.

"He (Ferdinand) brought up Cech, Drogba and John Terry, they need some leaders in there. You want ready-made (players), who walk in and make you a better team.

"I think the worry is, they spend right now £200m on Werner, Ziyech and Havertz and they can still finish fourth or fifth. Like Frank said, they want to win a title.

"I think Kai Havertz is a special player, but it feels like they need to sort out the ‘keeper and the centre-backs first. Mason Mount can play in there. Where does Mason then play? He’s had a good season.”

Ferdinand added: “I really like Kai Havertz, I think he’s a fantastic talent, like Owen said, but I would definitely get him if you could still reinforce in the defensive areas and the goalkeeper.

"Then you’re onto a winner. That makes them a much better team and a team that can definitely improve on this season.”
