The Chelsea record Liverpool surpassed by beating Jose Mourinho's Tottenham

It has been quite the season so far for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League with a 14 point advantage over nearest challengers Manchester City, with Liverpool having a game in hand.

Liverpool have also won the European Super Cup with victory against Chelsea and the Club World Championship, following on from their success in the Champions League last season.

The Reds' latest victory came against Tottenham , with Roberto Firmino's goal proving decisive as Liverpool made it 20 win from 21 games in the Premier League so far this season.

That gave them 61 points from 21 games, which is the best record of any club in Europe's top five leagues after the same number of games.

In winning at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Liverpool surpassed the records of Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League, and the likes of Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in Italy, Spain and Germany respectively.

In 2005-06, Jose Mourinho's Chelsea had 58 points from 21 games, with 19 wins under their belts at that stage of the campaign.

But that was beaten by Manchester City in 2017-18, with Pep Guardiola's men going one better with 59 points and 19 wins from their first 21 games of the season.

However, Klopp's men have now done even better, putting them top of the pile when it comes to the best records across all five top European leagues.
