The Chelsea player who is key to unleashing the team's potential for title tilt

Many were stunned by the amount of money spent by Chelsea over the summer and it has certainly improved their side.

The likes of Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech and others have made a massive impact in the squad and results are coming through.

As the new signings continue to gel, the players' true skill is coming to the fore and there is a stability in the side.

Chelsea's attack are flourishing, while the defence are looking like their frailties are being fixed one step at a time.

But through it all is the spine of N'Golo Kante, who is embarking on a season to remember after last year's campaign to forget.

Since Kante's arrival to the Premier League in 2015 with Leicester City, he has emerged as one of the best midfielders in European football.

He continued that into Chelsea, winning another league title, the FA Cup and the Europa League.

However, the 2019/20 campaign was a difficult one for him with injuries really holding back and Frank Lampard never really being able to use a key player at his full potential.

The 29-year-old started just 20 Premier League games last season, with another two appearances off the bench, while he could only start four of the eight Champions League matches.

When Kante was available he was never fully fit, either, and his performances were not at the highest level that we all have come to expect.

But this season has been completely different, with a start in all eight league matches and being rested for just one Champions League game.

While the Blues fans have been excited about the new signings, Kante has quietly gone about his business and been excellent in the middle of the park.

The praise has flooded in for the new defenders and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, but the extra protection that Kante has offered has made their jobs much easier.

And that has not gone by Lampard, who has been delighted to get the World Cup regularly to feature.

“He played about 50% of the games last year and that is a big loss for half the season, a player of his level," Lampard said after the win.

"So I made a big, big step to try to manage his training and games and make sure that we attempt to have him fit and ready for as many games as we can.

"The last couple of games we have played is N’Golo Kante. His attributes are incredible, he can play in many positions in the midfield.

"The energy and ability to win the ball back, but also his ability on the ball, which is sometimes underrated, is amazing. He can play in different roles. People always want to talk about that he’s the best defensive midfielder and should be in a deeper role.

"But he can play in lots of different roles to massive effect and I am pleased he is fit now. We will have to keep managing that to make sure he stays fit, because he is massively important."

And Lampard has his crucial player back who could be a big part to a title tilt.
