The Chelsea player who has changed Frank Lampard's fortunes in Premier League title challenge

After a string of conceding goals, there has been a surprising turn of stability from Chelsea's back line in recent weeks.

For the third game in a row during midweek, the Blues kept a clean sheet as they denied Russian side Krasnodar in the Champions League.

It followed up the goalless draws against Sevilla and Manchester United, with signs that Frank Lampard may have found the right combinations in his defence.

But at the heart of it all is goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who has made a sensational start to life at the Blues.

He has had four clean sheets in his first five matches for the west London club and his ratings from WhoScored prove that the 28-year-old is only getting better.

According to their graphic, Mendy's ratings have been steadily increasing during his short time with the Blues so far.

The Blues had really struggled to have any stability at the back with Kepa Arrizabalaga in between the sticks, with WhoScored saying: "The goalkeeper has committed an error leading to an opposition goal in each of his three Premier League appearances this season, while a WhoScored rating of 5.48 is the lowest in 2020/21."
But with Mendy in the side, it appears that Lampard has the man he needs to move the Blues towards a Premier League title challenge.

Lampard is also benefiting from having Thiago Silva on a regular basis, however Mendy's secure start has given the Blues defence a lot of confidence.

They will want to continue that on as they take on Burnley today in the Premier League's 3pm kick-off.
