The Chelsea player who has been transformed this season - and it's not Jorginho or Kovacic

Former Chelsea player and manager Ruud Gullit has hailed the transformation of Willian under Frank Lampard.

Lampard took over from Maurizio Sarri in the summer amid talk that Willian could depart Chelsea after a frustrating season for the Brazilian.

Willian featured enough times to be effective under Sarri but never looked settled in the first-team unlike his previous years at the club since 2013.

Lampard delighted with transfer embargo being lifted

However, Willian has been back to near his best this term for Lampard and Gullit has identified the change as a major reason why Lampard has seen success at the Blues.

Whilst the likes of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have also improved, Gullit instead focused on Willian's return to form during coverage of Chelsea's Champions League win over Lille on Tuesday evening.

"Another thing that is important with the way Frank Lampard wants to play is his wingers," Gullit told beIN SPORTS.

"Willian was awful last season. He wanted to leave and he was not happy.

"If you see him now, he's lively and he's important."

Chelsea's 2-1 victory over Lille has seen the club finish second in Group H.

This now means they will face one of Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Barcelona or RB Leipzig in the last 16.

Next up for Chelsea in the Premier League it's a home clash at Stamford Bridge against Bournemouth on Saturday.
