The Chelsea morning headlines as James names next academy star, transfer competition for forward

Here's your Chelsea morning headlines for Friday, 20th March.

Lampard advised against Coutinho signing

Chelsea legend Frank Lebouef has told Blues' head coach Frank Lampard not to make a summer move for Barcelona man Philippe Coutinho.

The club have been linked with the former Liverpool player who is currently on loan at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. He impressed during his time at Anfield, but Lebouef doesn't think he would be a good fit at Stamford Bridge.

"I would have lots of question marks seeing him coming to Chelsea, to bring what?" he told ESPN FC.

"We have young players, very talented, who are very promising. We have good midfield players with [Mateo] Kovacic and Jorginho, to organise the game."

Chelsea's player of the season so far

James names next Billy Gilmour

Chelsea have been praised for their use of young players so far this season. Reece James is among several academy players to establish himself in the first team under Frank Lampard, with the likes of Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abaraham also making the breakthrough this season.

Billy Gilmour is the latest to impress in his full Premier League debut in Chelsea's last game.

James has now named the next academy star to keep an eye on in the coming months and years.

"Be on the look out for Tino Anjorin. He's debuted already but one who can break into the first team," he told an ask me anything session on Bleacher Report.

Blues face forward competition

Chelsea have been joined in the race to re-sign former winger Jeremie Boga by Serie A side Napoli, according to CalcioMarcato.

The Sassuolo forward has impressed this season, scoring eight goals ans providing four assists in all competitions and is said to have been identified as a long-term replacement for Willian who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Chelsea reportedly have first-refusal on the player, putting them in a driving seat for a deal which could cost around £15 million.

The cost of not completing the season

It was announced on Thursday that the FA's ususal deadline for completing the domestic season has been lifted.

Leagues usually have until June 1st to complete fixtures, but the delay due to the coronavirus postponements mean that the season is now allowed to extend beyond that date.

The new return date has been set as April 30th, but this again could be extended if the situation doesn't improve in the next few months.

But what if the season somehow can't be finished? Reports claim that the Premier League will owe a massive £762million in broadcast revenues.
