The Chelsea morning headlines as Frank Lampard gives injury boost, Timo Werner's transfer advice

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Saturday, February 22.

Chelsea injury boost ahead of Tottenham

Chelsea have been handed a welcome boost ahead of the crunch Premier League clash against Tottenham tomorrow afternoon.

After sustaining a blow to the face during the Manchester United game, Andreas Christensen was a huge doubt for the game, leaving Frank Lampard with a tricky decision to make on his back four.

However, the Denmark centre-back has declared himself fit to play against Spurs, after flying to Milan to get a specialist mask fitted to his broken nose.

And Frank Lampard has compared both Christensen and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are available for selection.

"Ruben is in the squad," Lampard confirmed in his pre-match press conference. "He is not fit to start but in the squad."

As expected, this update prompted a massive reaction from supporters on Twitter.

Timo Werner advised against Liverpool move

Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has advised Timo Werner to join Chelsea or Manchester United over a switch to Anfield.

The 23-year-old is expected to be highly courted in the summer window but amid links with Liverpool, Hamann actually feels that the forward would not be best suited playing for Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside.

Instead, he believes the German international is an ideal fit for either Chelsea or United.

"I trust him to play in a very big team soon. It is of course an honour for him to be linked with Liverpool. The question is: does he match Liverpool? For me he is strongest when he comes through the middle and can use his greatest weapon: his speed.

"With (Roberto) Firmino, Liverpool have a striker who is always playable and connects a lot with his team-mates. If Werner went to Liverpool, I would rather see him outside, but there are two absolute grenades in the team with (Sadio) Mane and (Mohamed) Salah.

"If none of the three strikers get injured or move, he won’t play and I don’t think that’s what he wants.

"Liverpool is the absolute benchmark, but in my view he would be better suited to Manchester United or Chelsea."

Mourinho's complaint dismissed

Frank Lampard has shot down Jose Mourinho's comments that Tottenham Hotspur are 'going to fight with a gun without bullets'.

The Spurs boss made the remarks after their 1-0 Champions League defeat to RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.

But Lampard has shot down Mourinho's analogy and claims Spurs will be just as bigger a threat without those players in their ranks.

"I watched the interview and they’re always interesting," Lampard said. "In terms of Dele Alli, his goals record... he’s a fantastic player, and Moura... I went through that already.

"I think we all feel the same as managers. When you have big players injured, you know how much you miss them.

"But they also have a big squad. As I said, we had five huge ones in pre-season and four or five at the moment. You will feel that and I understand his feelings, because you want all your top players fit.

"But it doesn’t make me think they’re any weaker, whatever Jose says. I know we’ve got a tough team coming tomorrow."
